Control Systems Project Engineer

Essential Security Clearance Requirements

Due to the nature of our work a UK Security Clearance is required. To qualify for clearance, you must hold a British passport.

About the Role

This role would suit an engineer or technician who already has some experience and who is keen to make their next move. If you are enthusiastic to learn about new technologies and widen your experience, then this could be the opportunity for you.

Typical projects we do may include several of our devices networked together with one or more SCADA PCs at the top end. As the successful applicant, you will be part of the project team delivering these highly technical turnkey projects within a vast range of different industry sectors for our clients which include many blue-chip companies amongst them. In addition, you will assist with the provision of ongoing support for existing projects. You will find that the work is multi-disciplinary and very varied in nature, keeping you interested and continually challenged, whilst a combination of ‘on the job’ and formal training will hone your skills.

The role will be based mainly out of our Stockport office but will also include some travel within the UK. We also offer flexible working hours and a mix of office and home working.

Summary of Tasks

  • System design and initial documentation.
  • Project implementation including PLC programming, HMI and SCADA (primarily InTouch) configuration.
  • Supervision of our subcontractors, mainly panel builders.
  • Setup and testing of the project components prior to customer inspection or before shipping.
  • Compilation of a full documentation package at project completion.
  • Providing a small amount of ad hoc technical support to our customers (once you are trained).
  • Attending various UK sites to conduct basic routine maintenance checks on existing installations. These visits are occasional.
  • Assisting other engineers or our customers with site commissioning where applicable although these visits are rare.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • You should be qualified to at least HNC level or have suitable experience in the Industrial Automation and Control field.
  • Having prior experience with PLC programming and/or SCADA configuration would be advantageous.
  • Be able to provide a proven track record of your experience to date with references.
  • Excellent written English skills are essential and you need to have clear and confident verbal communication skills.
  • Have the knowledge and skills to solve problems effectively.
  • Be naturally self-motivated, with good organisational ability, and the drive and commitment to meet deadlines which may be tight at times.
  • Very importantly, you need to be a team player.

Other Essential Requirements

  • Due to the nature of the clients that we work with, you will need to agree to be security vetted to SC level which includes a criminal record check. To get this clearance you will need to have been a UK resident for at least 5 years. If you have been through the process before or if you already have at least a baseline security clearance in place, it would be advantageous but not essential.
  • You will have to be willing to undergo a routine drugs and alcohol test as part of the vetting process.
  • A full clean UK driving license is essential.
